My fractured pastoral for Creative Writing class.

Internet Autumn

The day must have burst gorgeous,
Because the cat won’t leave me alone.
He must see the sun tickle
Red and gold leaves.
And want to stalk about,
A lawn so green, its poison.
He must see the flittering squirrels,
Little fury bombs--just waiting to explode,
As they caper about in the fallen detritus of trees.
His nose must scent the thousand twilight musks of autumn.
And he must have a rumple in his fur,
A twitch in his step,
That only a stretch beneath a dome
Of blue so bright and clean, can cure.
He’s must have breeze-torn clouds in his eyes,
And starling songs in his throat,
Because he wants out there, so bad he groans.
And I lift back the curtain,
And see that the cat is right.
And God must have exploded a celestial firecracker
To start this day.
I let him out, watch him slink through Fall’s windy charms.
And head back into the gloom of the house,
To flip on the computer, to surf the day away,
In its flickering electron glow.
