Jul. 9th, 2007 02:23 pmIt looks like it's going to storm. I hope so. I suspect however, that the drought effecting my little area of the country will not be ending. Storms have been passing us over coming off the lake and shedding not a tear for this thirsty region. I let the dogs out this morning and padded about barefoot on the lawn and the grass felt like dull sawblades and the underbrush in the little woods by my house is all dying. The wildflowers are wilting and dying....but we have plenty water to keep out exotic imported plants that we paid top dollar for at the garden center plump and juicy. I don't know, landscaping makes me sad. Your house should fit in it's natural setting, not stand out like a big sore thumb. Ever seen pictures of the suburbs in the desert? Everyone says those green lawns and perennials are a miracle and I just want to vomit. There's something kinda sick with that. Why does everything have to look the same. We have peonies in the window boxes in Ohio and Florida, so they must grow even where they are not native. Meanwhile, local droughts continue as land is cleared and stripped to make room for box stores that will be abadoned and derelict in two years as fickle business moves once more to maximaze profit....Sorry, I'm tired and cranky.
