The Other Boleyn Girl is ahistorical tosh. I'm quite fond of it. :) I think I love it for all the reasons I wasn't meant to, such as ANNE. <3 All that rage and desperation coupled with a brilliant, Machiavellian mind is like catnip to me. Mary was eh, Catherine was okay, but ANNE. Only she's kind of the villain, of course. (Also, her relationship with Henry Percy is one of my favourite things about her - it's so ambiguous, but at the same time emotional.)
Philippa Gregory in general tends to a Madonna/whore dichotomy which drives me nuts. You can see it in TOBG with Mary vs. Anne, it's in The Queen's Fool with Mary vs. Elizabeth. In The Virgin's Lover she makes Elizabeth out to be stupid. Elizabeth. Yeah. I wouldn't go as far to say she hates women she thinks are too clever for their own good, but it's a disturbing trend in her work.
Lol, with a recommendation like that, I think I will read it. But instead of buying it, I will get it from the library.
Kinda glad I put the all the Phillipa Gregory I was going to buy in the bookstore down. I bought the first bunch of "The King's Blades" series by Dave Duncan instead. I hope they're good.
