Regarding book club: I have decided to extend the reading of the "Handmaid's Tale" through the second week of August, mainly because I think everyone is pretty busy. So therefore, look for a post about the book next week.

Regarding parents who want us to ban MySpace. We are not babysitters. There are plenty of adults with accounts. Which means it is not fair to reduce the level of interenet use down to the level of a fifth grader when adults must use the computers as well. Parent, people, parent. If you can't keep track of what your kids are doing, maybe you shouldn't have had them...which is harsh, but I am sooooooooo annoyed. I brought my laptop to work today and when I signed in and tried to do a Google search for rape statistics, I was denied because of the filter that is already on the computers. I as a twenty-two year old college student should be more than able to have access to this information. I am not a child!

There I vented.

Agreed. I wouldn't touch myspace with a 10 foot pole, but like livejournal there are some really neat people online. We shouldn't need any kind of filter at a library. If you want to look at something inappropriate do it at home/on your own time.
