I need generic, but well written fantasy. I am in a slump, I have nothing that I want to read. I want cheese-bally goodness, that is also good, preferably with some hot elves!

HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLP ME!

However, even if you don't have an elf-book suggestion, lay it on me.

*points to comment in telophase's similar post* Only no elves, sorry.

Also Sherwood Smith. Though again, no elves.

Dragon duology, which features a hero with a speach impediment faking being dumb his whole life to avoid being killed by his warmongering father, then having to prove himself after his father dies.

That sounds like it is made of major win.

Lol, everyone on the flist has been talking about books today which made me realize I haven't read anything that wasn't a manga or about the Hussite Revolution of 1414 in two months. This depresses me and makes me feel anxious. Anxious, I say!

Only no elves, sorry.

Lol, I realize that rarely do the words "well-written" and "good" and "with elves" go together, if ever. In fact, that might even be an oxymoron.

Tolkein?

Also...you could always browse my author tags...

(I'm trying to think of any other obsessive bloggers/taggers who read a lot of medieval fantasy.)

Actually, you have mentioned Elizabeth Bear. I have never read any of her books, but we have them here at the library. Many of them have shiny, beautiful covers. But I have been fooled by covers. What do you think, should I give her a try? I have free time tonight and desperately want something I can take home. This is horrid, this not having anything to read thing.

I am utterly in love with her first 2 Promethean Age books and New Amsterdam. I am less in love with the second set of Promethean Age books, though they're still quite good, but suspect they're more accessible. (It follows more narrative rules, while part of why I loved the others is that they stomped all over narrative rules.)

I haven't read any of her scifi yet, though.

Have you read Patricia McKillip?

Also might try Marie Brennan.

Hey! This is exciting, we might actually have the Promethean Age books here! I must check the shelves!

Also, I ♥ Patricia McKillip. But I haven't read her newest one, have you?

I only discovered McKillip this year, so I can handle waiting for the paperback of her new one.

Yeah, I was waiting for it too, but if you had read it and liked it, I was willing to take a chance :).

Hmmm, we only have "Whisky and Water" here.

Which, sadly, probably won't make a lot of sense without Blood and Iron.

So I ascertained from Amazon :(. Howeve, I did order Blood and Iron from the library, so I hope it comes soonish. I also order the Dragon Duology. Thank you so much!

I ended up taking home Pratchett's Lords and Ladies. I've only read three of his books, but I liked them. I hope this one is good.

I've got the YA category covered

Sadly, no hot elves, but good YA fantasy.

Faerie Wars - Herbie Brennan
Valiant- by Holly Black (not hot elves but hot fae)
Poison- Chris Wooding
New Policeman - Kate Thompson (Irish mythology)
Rebel Angels by Libba Bray (the first is A Great and Terrible Beauty, but this one is the best)
Sabriel by Garth Nix

I can't think of any YA fantasy with hot elves. This makes me sad. I think I may have to do something about it. Sadly, elves aren't my thing. I'm all about fae.

Lol, it is creepy how many books on that list I have read and liked!

So, with that in mind, Rebel Angels (which I forgot about. I did read A Great and Terrible Beauty), New Policeman and Wild Wood Dancing are all going on the list of books to be ordered from the library. Lol, I hope they all don't come at once.

And as far as the elves thing goes, fae count almost as much :).
