It's like the nutters can spot a heathen atheist a mile off. All this week has been one big bitchfest about abortion. Then, I flip open Commonweal to see what the hell they have to say about the horror that was the passing of Proposition 8. Never made it to that article because I started with the back and saw this lovely editorial:

An Unnecessary Debate
If those in favor of legal abortion would just think clearly for a moment, we'd hear no more about abortion "rights". A single fact should end the argument: Search the world and you won't find one person who would have given his or her mother the right to abort his or her life.

Er, found one. I wouldn't, as a growing ball of cells in my mother's womb, have been able to make that kind of decision, let alone be aware of myself, therefore, if my mother would have chosen to abort me, I would never have been aware, wouldn't  be writing my response right now. I would not have existed, and because I would not have existed, I wouldn't care whether or not my mother had aborted me. However, mum, you can't get rid of me now. Which seems to be the confusion that of many an anti-human rights advocate suffers from, once a fetus is born viable into the world, then killing it becomes a little iffy.

Besides, I dare you to find one person who would be hard put to make the case that say Hitler or any other mass murderer shouldn't have been aborted. See what happens when you use a fallacy for a logical argument.

If I learned anything from my mother it wait, and do not have more than you can support. If we had cheaper access to birth control without a ton of hoops to jump maybe it wouldn't even be such a problem. Also condoms=expensive, are you seriously telling me there is no cheaper way to make them?

I say while it's still in my body I can do whatever the hell I want with it. A fetus is essentially a parasite. So is a tapeworm, but you don't see people complaining about ripping those suckers out

Found another one. If my mother had chosen to have a legal abortion when pregnant with me (as opposed to, say, an abortion during the third trimester), I would not have cared simply because I would not have been aware of it. If I were to discover now that my mother had considered abortion when pregnant with me, I can't say I'd be bothered, either. I would be glad she chose to continue with the pregnancy, that's all.

I say life that is not viable on its own is a parasite, lady_bell took the words right out of my mouth. It has no independent existence, no free will, no life except that of a growth.

This argument is almost as silly as the bumpersticker I saw recently: 'you can't be Catholic and PRO abortion.' Hold up. PRO abortion? When did respecting the legal rights of half the population and giving them legal blessing to make choices about their bodies as if they are adults suddenly become a great PRO abortion thing? Women everywhere will want one now. We'll have big 'happy abortion' parties and have a rally ('honk if you love abortion!'). heh. sorry. got out of controll for a sec...

We'll have big 'happy abortion' parties and have a rally ('honk if you love abortion!').. LOL! My family is very, very Catholic (well, the males stick to the abortion!contraception! the devil! all the same thing!, but the women folk, we know better) and every time I get interrogated by my uber-Catholic uncles and father, this is the mentality that they think I have, like that I want all babies to be ripped out of their loving mother's wombs! That I hate children! It puzzles me becaue I've never, ever given if a whiff of holding any of these beliefs...they must have sooper sekrit mind reading powers because man, I just want to eat babies, and like kittens on holidays.
