Okami and pirates
May. 21st, 2007 11:37 amOOOOOH, I played Okami last night (finally!). OMG TEH PRETTY. It's supposed to look like Japanese paintings and not knowing much about Japanese art, I couldn't tell you how aesthetically close they are to the real deals, however, the graphics are gorgeous. You play as this celestial wolf named Amaterasu (who is also a Japanese sun goddess..I think, I have to look it up) and you have the power of the thirteen brush gods and basically, you calligraphy. You use brush strokes to fix things and fight things and it's awesome, like being in a scroll. And you beat things with a giant mirror until they go down and then draw on them. Hehehe. Excited. I'm only about forty minutes in, so I couldn't tell you to buy this, but so far, it's fun, really fun, so I recommend at least to rent it. I have, however, the feeling that this game is a keeper. My only quibble being that since it's set up like a story scroll, there didn't need to be voice overs and the voice overs are funky. Like a bunch of different voices speaking in gibberish with a different pitch and timbre for the different characters. It took some getting used to, but besides that, flawless. I mean one of your first missions is to fill in the Celestial River with stardust, how cool is that?
And in further news, I think the skull and crossbone shoes I bought yesterday make me play better. Definitely wore them all last night because they are the coolest things, evar. And they match the pirate polos we get to wear for summer reading this year. OH! And they DID finally turn the front desk into a ship. So win.
