Fell down the stairs this morning....well, more like careened head over heels down them like an ungainly sack of potatoes thrown by a druken Irish man after slipping on a squeaky ball Baby left on the steps. There is nothing more sinister than the sound of a squeaky ball as gravity realigns itself and you find yourself contemplating the uncomfortably short distance between you and hard concrete floor. So, needless to say, as I lay huddled, moaning and hoping to God the crunching I had heard was Doritos in my pockets and not my ankles crunching upon impact, the cat scrambles down the stairs, jumps my supine, cursing form, and proceeds to clean himself inches from my head. It would appear that he disapproved of my momentary airborne acrobatics. I had somehow, I think, sullied him.  I also came to the realization in those panic ridden minutes I spent laying on the floor that we really, really have a lot of spider webs down in the basement. Most unwholesome.  I called off work due to shooting stars of pain pretty much everywhere I moved. Laying down all day seems to have helped and while I am sure bits of my anatomy are now bruising into some garish shade of green, I will survive.

I finished Predator's Gold whilst at home on the couch. Solid enough sequel to Mortal Engines. I definitely recommend the Hungry Cities Chronicles to anyone seeking a  Phillip Pullman-esque romp through steam-punky victoriana alt history. Plus, I do love Hester so much.  And the cities really do eat each other. And there are airships. C'mon, can't get much better than that. I will commence with Infernal Devices some time in the near future as I am now reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. I have noticed that I have a thing for books about gentlemen thieves and the cities they burgle. I think I was looking for something along the lines of Swordspoint but instead ended up with a caper novel, with all of the fantasy accoutrements. I am enjoying it greatly thus far and am glad there appears to be a sequel.  I like that the reviewer on the back threatens that the books will entertain you. He writes: It will entertain you. Not just will entertain you, but will-italics-for-emphasis-and-maybe-a-threat-or-two-he-will-cut-you-if-you're-not-entertained-maybe-twice entertain you.
