So I picked up The Thief the other day as a way to procrastinate on doing my Islamic Civ research paper. And lo, guess what? I've read this book before! It's actually a book that I sorta "lost" in that I always wondered what the title of that funny book with the Greek world and the clever ending was called and never worked up the effort to find out so I could re-read it. So I was pleasantly surprised when I started on the adventures of our snarky, unreliable, ever-hungry narrator, Gen, and realized he was the same Gen that I'd read about oh so long ago. I have to laugh because I'd forgotten that I'd liked Gen so much that I named my first ever original character after him in my first ever short story. But this Gen was a detective instead of a thief and I gave him a feather of white hair instead of a feather shaped scar.

So, not only did I get re-read one of the few books from my childhood that made me want to tell my own stories, I also found out there are sequels!

I wish I had made the connection sooner because everyone's had a review of The Thief and I never connected the dots!

So in conclusion, you shoudl read this. It's short, sweet, snarky, with great characters and a cool psuedo-Greek world. Plus Gen is one of the best thiefy characters evah, if I do say so myself, which I do.
