The Percy Jackson movie was complete and utter dreck. It may have been worse the Golden Compass. I am angry. I liked the books because they were silly and fluffy and funny and Rick Riordan, although he sometimes betrays a lack of understanding about Greek cultural and social mores, still has evidently read the sources and has a decent grip on them. The makers of the movie not only did not read the Jackson novels, they also apparently couldn't even have been bothered to read the entire wiki article. Also, couldn't have been bothered to read any of the wikis on any of the Greek mythology they botched so, so horribly. How could you have screwed up a novel that was light on depth and high on fun and completely and utterly written for the big screen? HOW? And moreover, not only did you make a bad adaptation of the book, you made a crappy movie. How do you do that? Who okayed that? Oh and also, way to take a series that was pretty heavy on competent, strong female characters and pretty much combine them all into Anabeth. Is there like a quota? Can there only be one kickass female per movie? And where the fuck was Dionysus? God that movie SUCKED.

THE GREEK UNDERWORLD DOES NOT EQUAL HELL AND HADES DOES NOT EQUAL SATAN. OR MICK JAGGER*. DAMMIT.

*although maybe Riordan described him as such and in that case I totally, totally missed that and FAIL Rick Riordan.

You also forgot to mention Persephone was not a Ho-bag

Hmmm, I was confused by the portrayal of Persephone as a cthonic sex pot, but see, I love, love, love me some Rosario Dawson, and other than the WTF?! at the uncharacteristic portrayal, I still thought she was pretty cool. Plus Rosario Dawson was a really good choice and comes close to how I picture quite a few of the Greek mythological figures. She would have made a good Penelope or Atalanta or Artemis or Psyche.

I thought from the commercial that wasn't as focused on special effects that movie was going to suck - thanks for the confirm

yeah...I wasn't expecting much. I really did go in with low expectations, but oh my, it was bad, bad, bad...despite have some A-list talent like Uma Thurman and Sean Bean.

I would advise you to keep your money :). However, the books are really awesome in a fluffy, non-substantive way and if you would like to borrow them from me when next I see you, you are more than welcome. They're supah quick reads.

See, I watched as a dumb person, knowing a little (but not lots) about mythology and reading the books but taking it with a grain of salt, and I thought it was entertaining and I liked it. I'd see it again. Although, I watched "The Wolfman" the night before, and I'm pretty sure anything would be amazing after that.

I am so sad that the Wolfman sucks. I wanted to see it, but I think I'm gonna save my money. I don't know what about this movie made me really, really allergic to it, but I almost walked out a couple of times. Maybe I was super disappointed because to me, these books wouldn't have been that hard to translate into a movie and instead they seemed to have spent their budget on big names when they should have spent it on writers. Fantasy movies, especially those for aimed at kids, always get shorted.
