Romeo X Juliet
Apr. 13th, 2007 11:56 pmSo, I just finished watching the first episode of Romeo X Juliet, and OMG TEH PRETTY! I knew it was going to be good as
rayechu blogged about it earlier, but, wow, this series looks like it's going to rock my world. I hated Romeo and Juliet, they were my least favorite characters in the whole play, but these incarnations of them are so freaking sweet. And Shakespeare is a character! Awesome. Oh, and I knew that they put Othello easter eggs in, that it was the play that was implied, but the first line that the Red Whirlwind says about putting your swords away lest the morning dew rusts them (my garbled paraphrase), is what Othello says to Brabantio and Iago's soldiers in the first act: "Keep up your bright swords, for the dew will rust them". Squee! I'm so excited that I recognized something! It totally makes me want to drag out all my Shakespeare plays and sonnets and reread them to see what else the cheeky Japanese put in. My only sadness is that this version of Mercutio seems a bit blah. He is such a fabulous character, so I am saddened. And also, since all the Capulets were killed, does this mean that there is no Tibault, no Prince of Cats? Saddened as he was also one of my favorite characters. Man, watch this anime, do it now. It deserves Naked Hakkai.
