Book meme taken from [profile] rayechu :

Paperback, hardback or trade paperback?

Um, all of them.

Amazon or brick and mortar?

Both. I will get books wherever I can.

Barnes & Noble or Borders

Borders as the Barnes & Noble is definitely in the side of town where the sidewalk glitters and everyone has a minimum 20,000 dollar credit limit.

Bookmark or dog-ear?

Dog-ear. Sorry.
Favorite place to read?

My father’s chair.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?

Random.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep. Unless, years later I realize that I have outgrown the book and will likely never pick it up again.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?

Um, depends. If it’s new I keep it. If it’s used and good I keep it, but sometimes with the older books, the actual cover is so much nicer to look at that I toss it.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?

Remove it.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?

How about Garth Nix ?

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?

Keep going till my eyes burn and I can’t keep my head up.

It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?

Both.

Buy or borrow?

Buy what I know I will want to reread, but I do enjoy my library. I try not to borrow from friends because I am no courtly lover of books. As a kid I used to eat my favorite pages from stories.

New or used?

I like new books, but I get so excited when I pick up a used book and it has notes from the previous owner. I picked up a book at Goodwill last year called “Tea And Curiosity” and there were tea leaves stuck in some of the pages and it smells like some one’s perfume. And some one wrote Chinese characters in the margins of some of the pages. I recognized the character zhong for middle and got excited.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?

I do all three. But usually I read by what gets referenced in the book that I currently reading, especially non-fiction. For fiction, I generally go with reviews, but I prefer real live recommendations, especially from my favorite library co-workers or patrons.

 Tidy ending or cliffhanger?

Oh, endings are hard. I have no preference, as long as it’s well done.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?

All day.

Stand-alone or series?

I used to love series, but as I get older, I find that I haven’t the stamina for more than a trilogy. Unless, of course, it’s manga.

Favorite series?

Legend of Drizzt. I know, I know. I read them in the fifth grade, so sue me.

Favorite children's book?

A Wizard of Earthsea, though I think that it’s more than just a children’s book.

Favorite YA book?
The Golden Compass. Um, well, there’s more, but I think that’s one of the best books I have ever read.

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?

Um, well, I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that obscure. But I must say, that most people I talk to have never read the The Colored Fairy Books by Andrew Lang. They were really hard to find a while ago, but then some one started reprinting them, so I hope that means they are enjoying a revival.

Favorite books read last year?

Count of Monte Cristo and Bridge of Birds as well as D. Gray-Man and Bleach

Favorite books of all time?

A four way tie between The Last Unicorn, A Fine And Private Place, The Farthest Shore and Homeland

Least favorite book you finished last year?

Oh wow. I dunno. I can’t remember.

What are you reading right now?

Commodify Your Dissent, Why We Buy, Swords and Deviltry, Albion and The Invention of Human Rights

What are you reading next?

Romeo And Juliet, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Gospel of The Living Dead, Mephistopheles: The Devil In The Modern Era.

Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?

House on Falling Star Hill

Favorite book to reread?

The Crystal Shard, well any of the Drizzt books.

Do you ever smell books?

Oh yeah. There is nothing like the smell of books. And library books (the ones that aren’t gross) smell the best. They smell like human thought and time.

Romeo And Juliet, The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
I was going to do Romeo and Juliet, 12th Night, Tempest, and then Midsummer, if you would like to synchronize with me. I own a copy of everything but Midsummer.

Hehehe. I memorized a part of Helena's for Shakespear Club in High School.
Helena rocks.

Act 3 Scene 2
HELENA
O spite! O hell! I see you all are bent
To set against me for your merriment:
If you were civil and knew courtesy,
You would not do me thus much injury.
Can you not hate me, as I know you do,
But you must join in souls to mock me too?
If you were men, as men you are in show,
You would not use a gentle lady so;
To vow, and swear, and superp raise my parts,
When I am sure you hate me with your hearts.
You both are rivals, and love Hermia;
And now both rivals, to mock Helena:
A trim exploit, a manly enterprise,
To conjure tears up in a poor maid's eyes
With your derision! None of noble sort
Would so offend a virgin, and extort
A poor soul's patience, all to make you sport.

Lol. It is funny how much Shakespeare you actually know without realizing it. I wish we had done some Shakespeare in school, as we only did very boring plays.
