[profile] rokk_lobster , you have got to read the The Gossamer Plain. Order it from SIRSI the moment you see this post. DON'T WAIT FOR ME. I WILL PROBABLY BUY THIS.

You all must understand, I have not been excited nor entertained by a Forgotten Realms novel not written by R.A. Salvatore (and to be honest the Hunter's Blade Trilogy was iffy) for a very, very long time.....except then The War of The Spider Queen series came out and it was, awesome. So awesome and so evil and so awesome but oh so evil. Yes awesome evil goodness wrapped up into a pretty damn solid series. So anywho, in the WotSQ there were these two really great side characters, Khaanyr Vhok and Aliisza (Aliisza being part of the inspiration for my own beloved  D&D character Shasta Daisy) who are half-demons and chaotically evilly awesome (yeah, yeah I know I said that but this is a fan girl post). So they don't get much book time, Vhok loses his complicated bid for power in the underdark and Phauran (the bestest drow since Drizzt and Gromph, who as we all know are the dark elves of my heart) dies so Aliisza doesn't get anymore hot drow sex( SPOILER: she does however, save Phauran'S finger...which is the only piece of him left), yada yada. No surprise, lotsa things died and/or were thwarted at the divinely (or would that be demonically?) fitting ending to the series about the dark elves and their bitch goddess. But......

I was putting labels on paperbacks today (and let me tell you I am sooooooooooooooo glad that [profile] pyratequeene  is now ordering books) because as I was putting labels on this book I noticed it was a Forgotten Realms novel and felt my heart warm just  a bit with nostalgia (that and I've never seen a new Forgotten Realms paperback not by RAS ever come in at South in all the time I have worked there). And then I noticed that there is a winged woman on the cover that looks kinda familiar....and I flip the back over.....and lo, the book is about Khaanyr Vhok and Aliisza and it is the first of a new trilogy! So,  with trepidation weighing my heart, for it has truly been so long since I read a FR novel that I didn't throw across the room in frustration, I take Mr. Thomas M. Reid's book home. And to my surprise, it's well written, on par with Reid's WotSQ novel. HUZZAH! But wait, there's more!

***************************SPOILERY---KINDA**************************************************
Aliisza and Phauran had a kid! OMG OMG OMG. PHAURAN AND ALIISZA. HAD. A. KID. AND HIS NAME IS KAEL. (Those of you familiar with our Broken Lands comic can bust out laughing now) and more importantly, at some point in this novel (yes, I peeked ahead to see who would die) Aliisza and her kid switch bodies. Wow.

So sorry if you have read through this whole post and did know anything I was talking about......but let me assure you this is news to rejoice at. However, if upon reading my humble post, you decide that your interest has been piqued and would like to start reading the crack that are the Forgotten Realms novels, I would be more than willing to help you sift through the hundreds of them to find the decent, readable ones. Under the condition that you understand that these are not really good books, in fact they're a bit like nachos awesome while you're eating them but you'll probably regret it later, maybe a little, maybe alot. However, with that being said, they are also awesomely fun.

Also, Ryan, just so you can continue squeeing with me, I saw an advertisement in the back of this books for a new trilogy................starring Halistraa who is now Lolth?! and it would appear that she and Elistraee will duke it out and the drow will have to decide between them.    The copy says this: The dark elves of Faerun must finally choose between a goddess that offers redemption and peace, or a goddess that demands sacrifice and blood. We know what a human would choose, but what about a drow? SQUEE SQUEE SQUEE.

You might enjoy the War of the Spider Queen. Maybe not. But maybe. Although they are fast read, readily available from my shelves as they are on the outside of a shelf ::gasp:: and even if you didn't like them you would then know what Ryan and I were talking about. But you might like them. Today we go to Borders so I can get the novel for keeps. So excited.

Actually even if I read them I probably still would not be able to keep up in conversation. I have read many of the Drizzt books, but you and Ryan have an incredible mind for detail and I forget things very easily. So yeah, even if I read them I would still be lost. They really don't sound up my alley, but I'll kep it in mind when I eventually get bored.
