Well, last night I read a compendium for the comic series The Darkness. It crosses over with Witchblade so that's pretty cool, but like most guy oriented American comics I complain about the art consistency and the treatment of women. Take the Angelus for example. She's one of the super -powerful -been around for centuries- plotting bad guys and I thought she was pretty damn cool, big boobed-demony half naked succubus type that she is. However, within days of manifesting his new powers (not even knowing that he had them and thus is a complete novice to this ancient power struggle) he manages to take out the Angelus.....but not the dude who was manipulating him. The dude who was scared shitless of the Angelus. So how is it he can take out the Angelus, but not the other guy. And I can't stand how the faces change from panel to panel, although this one's one of the most consistent I have seen. But despite all of that whinning, I am going to keep reading, maybe even spring for the sixty dollar volume that has all of the comics in it. Maybe even the Witchblade one, too. I know Ryan would definitely like them both.
Then, I finished volume 10 of Fruits Basket and this morning I dug up 11 from my book stacks of doom. I haven't looked at it yet, but apparently, according to the preview in 10, this is the volume where Akito makes his big revealing speech or whatever. And I'm excited and nervous because I have been having a sinking suspicion of Akito's role. I have this suspicion that the chicken is God.....or more like Drosselmeyer from Princess Tutu where he's controlling the characters he's created. Which, is in a word, lame. I am really, really hoping that I'm wrong.....I probably am considering everything else I've been wrong about, so I really hope that the chicken isn't God, because I was thinking, wow, all the other elements of the zodiac are in play and every character from that story has showed up or is going to show up....except for God, the provider of the Banquet.....but Akito as a god character is just weak.
