I just finished The Year of Our War and am terribly excited to read the sequel. I had no idea what I was getting into when I ordered this book from the library, but it was incredible. However, I won't rant and rave like I want to because, on the off chance one of you sees this and reads it, i don't want that inevitable disappointment we all feel when something has been hyped.

I will tell you this: Jant Comet is one of the finest drawn characters I've had the privilege to read about and this book is absolutely, fantastically weird and jittery, but in a grand way. But I'm also not saying that the book is flawless, far from it, but it's so damn compelling I couldn't put it down. For a first time novel, Steph Swainston's book is pretty amazing. So glad she wrote sequels.

Started Predator's Gold and I really, really hope it's as good as Mortal Engines, I'm on page 35, so far so good.

Won't be on anymore today or tomorrow as I will be locked away with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. ::grumbles:: even though it's been terribly spoiled for me and I'm not particularly looking forward to reading it anymore. But, as we know, I'm a lemming, so over the cliff I go.

But all the cool kids are doin it!

Sorry about the Potter spoiliage. I feel your pain.

But, then again, I knew that the series would not end well.

I know. I'm just kinda grumpy about shelling out twenty bucks for a book I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like, at all.

LOL, HARRYYYY!!! I felt like such an idiot when i clicked on the spoiler page :O . I thought it was going to be a joke like the JJ Abrams webpages popping up. I was even laughing at how un-credible the supposed spoilers were, like "she can't do that to all of them!" Then i hear about the lawsuit and i was even more shocked! but...we're leaving a few hours to go wait in line, lol
You know, I keep reading children's books that it's getting kind of scary, so i'm going to go pick up that book and maybe expand my horizons. I'm sure there's a million other authors i'd love if only given the chance.

Me, too. I friggin' read the spoiler page before I even realized what it was. That's what I get for being on the internetz when I knew I shouldn't be :). "The Year of Our War" is very, very good. Quite unlike any fantasy novel I've ever read. Don't worry about the vast amounts of children's literature, I find that I read mostly stuff ear-marked at children's or YA, too. I think it's mainly due to an issue of quality. So much written for children is better than what is currently being written for adults.
