I am thinking about starting an online book club focused primarily on science fiction and fantasy with women readers in mind when I select the books. Anyone interested?
LOL> You can read my mind girl. I have been looking around for a bookclub, but didn't really see anything. Especially not anything focusing on SF/Fantasy.
Hmms. Who else are you going to get? I bet Claire would be interested, and possibly Donna for smaller books. Maybe some people from your work? I don't know anyone else who really likes books. Also how often would you pick books, Bi-weekly? Monthly?
I thought you, Clare, maybe Donna, Ryan, and I could try one book for July--I already have it picked out (it's in celebration of the feminism in sf carnival) and see how it goes. We would use my livejournal for book discussing and if it went well, maybe I would then turn it into a community, open it to everyone and invite some people from work.....
Sounds good to me! Is it something you read before? *Oh and to correct my last post- catzrsweet said she has been bored lately. I think she might like reading as well.
Yes, it is something that I have read before.....I liked it but it scared the crap out of me. Also want to got to Borders and then get some Subway with me tonight?
Sure! I've actually been craving subway all day. And I have some stuff I want to get from borders. I should probably look the title up so I don't forget :p
Okay, well I am going to call Clare and see if she is in, check with your friend and Donna. I will also talk to Ryan. The first book will be "The Handmaid's Tale" and the official reading of said book will start July 1st. I will start writing some rules and some prompts! I already ordered you, Ryan and myself a copy. I don't think the book is more than three hundred pages max, and it is required reading from a fem lit class, so it should meet all the requirements of sf and feminist thought.
Oh! Actually I know 2 people. One of my Haruconees used to work at the bookstore and goes to the Elyria Public Library alot. For clarification you want me to call Donna?
Ok. Let me know what your friends think and all. If you tell me when to post,I will put up a list, some rules, and I prompt for everyone. I would like to start the 1st.
I fired off some emails. I think Theresa will be for it if we can get her a library copy. She doesn't work due to her disability, and doesn't have a lot of extra money to spend. But like I said she used to work in the book store, and enjoys reading. Amy (catzrsweet) might want to or might not. I know she isn't a huge reader, though she enjoys it "less then once a week" but I also know she is bored and up for trying new things.
