I, uh, read Small Gods and loved it....and am going through Pratchett withdrawal. I went to the bookstore and stared....because so many Pratchett novels....no clue where to keep going....

So, I have read The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Equal Rites and Small Gods. I understand that you don't really hafta read the Discworld stuff in order, so which one should I read next? I need a fix.

I really like the City Watch books; I think the first one is Guards! Guards!.

Oooooo, they had that one at my bookstore!

Might have to go get it and take it to NYC.

Seconding Guards! Guards! I can't decide whether it or The Hogfather is my favorite. (Which is to say, you should totally also read The Hogfather.)

Hogfather is on the list to read. I saw the movie, which was how Discworld first came across my radar, and was sufficiently impressed with what I saw to want to engage with the rest of Discworld.

I like the books about Death the best, so I would really recommend recommend Mort, Reaper Man, or Hogfather (Hogfather does sort of follow on characters from those first two, but it's probably understandable without reading them first).

Mort was the one I wanted, but it was, alas, not available. I ordered it, though. So now I am excited!

Colour of Magic is definitely the first one, and the next one is The Light Fantastic followed by Equal Rites.

I think I mentioned Pollan's In Defense of Food, which I loved because Pollan is urbane and witty and really, really thoughtful.

I also think you would like Bridge of Birds Barry Hughart and if you can find it, the short stories in Peter S. Beagle's The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche are really all sorts of wonderful. Aaaaaaaaaand, I'm reading Nick Harkaway's The Gone-Away World which was described to me as a combo of Pratchett and Pynchon and I'm finding quite charming. I own all of these books, so if you want to borrow, let me know, because with the exception of the Beagle book, I know where all of them are.

Fridays are good for me and Ryan!
