I find myself in possession of a yaoi short novel.  I do not know how this happened and I am not sure how I feel about this. I am attracted to yaoi with the part of my brain that just notes if things are pretty and shiny and does no actual critical thinking. Somehow,  putting the magic of yaoi-land into a text-based format seems, erm, wrong? I really, really do not want to spend the length of a novel reading stuff  based on yaoi-land premises. Is it wrong that I find the genre (well some of the genre, there are some things in the world of yaoi and bl that I will not wade into) okay as comic/primarily visual medium but inexcusable as a novel?

Neil Postman is correct, I think: medium is the format is the content.  Well, I horribly butchered that, but ya get it right?

As if learning Mandarin Chinese wasn't hard enough, why, oh why Chinese Coach, are your requirements for mastering a character so exacting? I am obviously not going to get the exact same stroke that your "masters" would use, especially since I am not a machine. I have taken Chinese before. I got A's on my character writing, I have written these before. Trust me, the character for middle (zhong) which you so earnestly inform me that I have not mastered, is about the only thing I retained from my previous Mandarin courses.

Oy vey. Now I can't move onto the next lesson.

Also, would some Pinyin hurt ? I know it is a bit of  a crutch, but for a native English speaker who is used to script, going directly to memorizing characters is TEH HARD.

Whine done, going to go play the World Ends With You on my break instead of trying to master a language in which I have absolutely no proficiency.
