I want a sci-fi novel?!
Aug. 1st, 2009 12:39 pmI find myself craving space opera...or failing that something spacey with lots of ships and 'splosions and battles. But no aliens. Not in the mood for aliens. Unless of course they are portrayed sympathetically...which they will not...so no aliens. Mmmmmmm, this is weird, I usually have so little interest in science fiction of this kind.
Basically, I want more Toward the Terra, but alas there is no more. Now I will have hunt around the sci-fi section of SoLo, pitiful as it is, and find something.

The Titan's Curse---Rick Riordan
Aug. 1st, 2009 03:46 pmThank you Mr. Riordan for a final battle in which the boy character sacrifices himself and the girl characters are the ones that go about and kick all the ass and take all the names. It makes me almost forgive you for Zoe. I think Artemis is now my new favorite Riordan Olympian, although I am still fond of Hermes and Hades. I also was particularly fond of all the scenes with Tantalus trying to eat. This series succeeds in entertaining me on so many levels. It's ridiculous and doesn't take itself too seriously. The girl characters are actually quite awesome and there are a lot of them. I enjoy Percy. I have laughed hysterically at least once a novel and the reworkings of Greek legends into a modern setting are so very clever. So, I recommend heartily despite the whole "The Greek gods follow Western Civ as it moves from one more awesome place to another" thing.
Also, Ophiotaurus. My new favorite thing, evar. Who wants to draw me and adorable eel-cow baby? Moo! Hee.
