I've never made matcha myself, but I really like it. It's got a very different taste and texture from the sort of Japanese green tea you normally get in the US, though, so be prepared.
I've done tea ceremony once, but it was not a life-changing experience for me, so I can give no advice there. Mainly I just like tea.
I have always wanted to try it but in general when I found it, it was always so pricey. So I just procrastinated in getting it.
Apparently, it is trendy to put Matcha is smoothies, which is why the aunt bought it. But she did not like the taste and gave it me instead. She also found the "tea ceremony set" at Borders, so I am dubious about that and have a feeling I'll just use the whisk? I don't think that I would feel comfortable/be capable of doing a tea ceremony and it makes me uncomfortable that Borders thinks their average customer is?
But this aunt is just awful and I am not surprised she bought something because she read in a magazine that it was "good for you" and didn't stop to do any research. Apparently she just thought it was some powder like whey or bee pollen that you could just throw in your drink.
