Wow. I just finished "Black Juice" by Margo Lanagan. What a great book of short stories. Each one was like discovering some new, bizarre, lovely thing. The writing was intense (she write directly from her characters'  minds,  her controll of POV is astounding) and taut and beautiful. There was a story about elephants rescuing their houdah and one about a world where clowns take over and another about being punished by sinking in a tar pit. I know that all of those sound stupid, but really, they are not. They are wonderful, provactive stories that just ripple with the grotesque and fantastic. If it wasn't so blasted cold in my house and my fingers weren't going numb, I would type a better review. If you love me, you will read  this book :).
