I have recently been reading many books by people who have decided to read one hundred novels and or books in a certain amount of time. So I decided to read 100 novels in six months. So from now until October 31th, I shall try to read one hundred novels. Granted, my reading list will probably not be as well-rounded or edifying as Janet Smiley, but I have decided to start with "The Count of Monte Cristo", then Tanith's Lee's "Metallic Love", then "Little, Big", and after that....well, dunno.
The point of this exercise is to help expand my reading horizons, just a bit. I still will probably never be able to read normal fiction like my friend Jen, but I thought I could dig up obscure titles that had an impact on the fantasy and science fiction genres, so I will be reading those mainly. I like older fiction in general and will most likely peruse the classics section at the library to see what I can find. It's just that my mind has felt so scrambled lately, and I've been reading a ton of non-fiction and haven't done a concentrated reading of fiction like this since I was little. I will also probably do a "re-reading" month, because as I think about all of the books I own, I noticed quite a few that I read five or ten years ago and haven't thought about since. So I think I will add the Dark is Rising series and the Earthsea Cycle to the list as well as His Dark Materials Trilogy. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to comment!

Man, on second thought, that is insane, but I really am going to try. My co-worker has decided to try, too. She is going to help me make a reading list. I will post it when we are done. Man, I forgot that I will have school, too. Oh well, I haven't finished a book in so long....at least maybe this will motivatie me.

But popcorn fiction should count! It has its uses. A lot of times I walk away with some random thing I didn't know. Besides Shalkan comes out in July, and you know you want to read it.

I have a bit of a reading list going. I ordered a bunch of obscure classics from the library, but I do think I will count Shalkan. I am however going to try to read things a bit different from what I usually read and try to cover different time perios. So here is my reading list thus far..

The Silver Metal Lover
Metallic Love
Count of Mounte Cristo
Little, Big
Engine Summer
Aegypt
The Tale of Genji
The Stars My Destination
Day of the Triffids
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Pride & Prejudice
The Dispossed
Island
Stranger In A Strange Land
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Satanic Verses
Confederacy of Dunces
Lamb
The Once And Future King
The Book Of Night With Moon

And that is the first twenty. If I can get all of those done...I will then start to think of the next twenty.

I thought Genji was supposed to be long and boring? As sighted here (http://messageboard.tokyopop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=688). However if you do decide to read it, there is a livejournal community all about it here (http://community.livejournal.com/reading_genji/profile).

Tacos sound good to me. Tale of the Genji is one of those "I meant to read that" books that I bought, so I thought I would give it a go.

I'll go if you want to, but I have seen the freebies list and nothing really grabbed my eye. We may be able to get a tokyopop sneaks and a viz preview book. They close at 7:30 so it probably just depends when we finish eating.
