Not even Cate Blanchett, who is awesome personified as one awesome lady, can save the new Robin Hood.

Which is sad as I've always prefered Robin Hood retellings to Arthurian stories any day of the week.

Besides, Errol Flynn is always going to be my favorite man in green tights. Canna help it.

I took this home, once, about two years ago when I first started the manga and anime club at the library. I don't know why I never got into, because I love it. I've only watched the first three episodes, but I don't think it could get any better. Alice, Alice, Alice. Where have you been? I have been waiting for a blonde, tightly-wound, slightly manic heroine to wave her sword in everyone's face as she strives for rule and organization. And the rest of her unit is cute, too. Plus, I love how in the first episode she saves Oland from the bad man with the tank and gets the antibody. And she tries to catch him in the second episode and I just giggle thinking about the series.

I really, really hope this one ends good, I like it sooooo much so far that I'm scared to look.

I am desirous of an Echo Bazaar T-shirt for the world must know that the game has consumed me. Consumed me, I say.

..because than tomatoes will stop tasting like pinkish water. There, I said it. Supermarket tomatoes make baby sasquatches cry.

Anyway, today was super productive! I got the indoor herb garden all set up and the little seeds are germinating (I know I'm a bit that, but I couldn't help it!). Hopefully the mint, dill, marjoram, garlic chives, cilantro and the zinnias I planted will come in and be super pretty. The small rose that my mom bought me is blooming very prettily, which tells met the windows in this house get lots and lots of light, so I'm excited. And my cat, Artemis, apparently reacts to catnip, so I'm going to look for a super cut pot and grow some for him. Well, mostly for me, and a little for him, because he's super silly when he has it.

I wanted to grow bigger veggies on the front porch, but I have no money for pots, so I'll have to wait till next year....although I am thinking about seeding the muddy patches on the side of the garage with asparagus just to see what happens because I read somewhere that it grows wild by roadsides...in Southern Ohio no less.

I also made beet sandwiches for lunch. This sounds kinda gross, but that's only if you don't like beets. I happen to love beets so when I saw the recipe on line for this sandwich, I was for it. Besides it has goat cheese and avocados. What could be better?

But really, I'm just procrastinating on LJ because I don't want to right a paper and I have no more moves in Echo Bazaar.

Maybe I'll go play Pokemon. Or watch the Soul Eater Anime. Or more of Ghost Hunt because I forgot how much I really, really liked that series (though the manga is by far creepier).
No me gusta papers.

Okay, I usually don't really root for romances or care who hooks up with who in stories as long as it's cool and not annoying, BUT OMG, Hiro Mashima, I can no longer wait. Why oh why have Erza and Lucy not gotten together? Why? In the history of OTPness I have never, ever wanted anything more badly.

Erza + Lucy= MAGIC TIME.

You know what I should do before class? Proof-read and edit my paper on Plato's Alcibiades Major now that I finished it. You know what I'm going to do instead? Eat a cupcake brownie and watch Sherlock Holmes, that's what.

Woo!

Michelle Sagara West's next Elantra book is available for pre-order on Amazon! That makes me all kinds of happy.

Yay, more Kaylin. And hopefully Tiamaris and Teela, too.

Yesterday I saw a man deep fry a coke on Modern Marvels: Frying. Okay, never mind that frying, as a cooking technique, isn't what you'd call "modern".  More importantly, I saw a man deep fry a Coke. I saw a man deep fry a Coke. I saw a man deep fry a Coke.

I have no in depth analysis of this. No commentary. Really. It is what it is, and you may do with it what you will. Though I think it speaks for itself. Deep fried Coke.

...I have been following the case of the militia/radical Christians in Michigan who were indicted for plotting badness against American citizens, police officers among them, and I ended up on their site....and then I clicked around some...and ended up here.

The beast of the end times has a triceratops head and a lion and a bear and some tigers oh my...and....I'm just going to go drink my Coke and get back to reading about the Greek gods, because I just inadvertently broke my brain. This is why Christians aren't allowed to have eschatology, it just ends in hysteria and bad art.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Not fair! Drizzt and Ged would never fight!

I like the person's rhyme in the comments because that's how it would go down  in my mind, too.

I voted for Ged, though. Please don't take my Drizzt fanbunny card.

All moved into the new place. I lack only appropriate dining room chairs. So I am feeling accomplished and happy as hell to be on my own. Then I got supah sick. It was awesome, I swear. I love running to the bathroom every ten minutes.

Anywho, I read Children of the Sea and will have thoughts about it eventually, once I get over the "Oh, so pretty. So very, very pretty. They turn into light and are eaten by the sea. So pretty."

And Conspiracy of Kings shipped! And I found my very, very old copy of the Thief. So that means I just have to buy Queen of Attolia because that is the only one of the fabulous series I don't own! How exciting. I can actually see all my damn books because they are all on shelves. I wish I had pictures of my old room so that the awesomeness of this was apparent to all.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnd I can finally re-read Descendents of Darkness because I have all of them now, in the same place, and do not have to fear and avalanche if I retrieve them. Hooray!
darkelf105: (Default)
Almost finished! Just have to bring the cat and the last load of books and then I am moved in to my new place and then maybe I'll have some time to myself. Hurray!

Drizzt vs Kahlan cage match.

As a Drizzt fanbunny (though I would have written that scene a little different) I am relieved he beats Richard,. Thank you. Someone had to do it.

Poor Kahlan....I liked you till the series lost its collective mind around book four. Was that the one with the unbelievably EVUL CHICKEN OF DOOMED DOOM?  Or the salvific statue of pure saving awesomeness that Richard makes, totally untrained. You know the one, the one that saves the EVERYONE and most likely also stopped them from ever having to pay taxes again? Because whatever one that was in, I read that far before, I thought, "Hmmm, I dunno....where's the Wheel of Time* at, because I need to stop." And I never, ever started again.

*This was the actual thought. Really, I swear. Then I stopped reading Wheel of Time because it was boring and re-read Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy instead. This was a tramatic year of reading for me because it also included Lackey's Last Herald Mage and one Darkover novel as well as whichever Pern novel had the psychic dolphins.

I've been packing up the ole library to move. All of my stuff is in boxes and I seriously, seriously need some manga to take my mind off of the excessive reading for school.

Soooooooooo, what's everyone been reading manga-wise? Don't worry about if I'll like it, just lemme know what you've read that's been good and tell me why.

Pretty please, with cherries on top? I go to the manga section of the bookstore and I find there is nothing there that I want, so I need help.

While I was watching the idiot box last night, I repeatedly had the thought: "Oh god, please, please stop playing with the hagfish."

Do with this what you wish.

The Percy Jackson movie was complete and utter dreck. It may have been worse the Golden Compass. I am angry. I liked the books because they were silly and fluffy and funny and Rick Riordan, although he sometimes betrays a lack of understanding about Greek cultural and social mores, still has evidently read the sources and has a decent grip on them. The makers of the movie not only did not read the Jackson novels, they also apparently couldn't even have been bothered to read the entire wiki article. Also, couldn't have been bothered to read any of the wikis on any of the Greek mythology they botched so, so horribly. How could you have screwed up a novel that was light on depth and high on fun and completely and utterly written for the big screen? HOW? And moreover, not only did you make a bad adaptation of the book, you made a crappy movie. How do you do that? Who okayed that? Oh and also, way to take a series that was pretty heavy on competent, strong female characters and pretty much combine them all into Anabeth. Is there like a quota? Can there only be one kickass female per movie? And where the fuck was Dionysus? God that movie SUCKED.

THE GREEK UNDERWORLD DOES NOT EQUAL HELL AND HADES DOES NOT EQUAL SATAN. OR MICK JAGGER*. DAMMIT.

*although maybe Riordan described him as such and in that case I totally, totally missed that and FAIL Rick Riordan.

I haven't posted in awhile, but that is because I am boring now (okay, not that there was a point when I was ever very interesting, but I at least had opinions, now I'm too tired for those). I haven't seen any of my friends, unless it was at school, I haven't read anything, unless it was for school, and I haven't really watched anything (although I did start "Spice and Wolf" and "Ghost Hound" but have watched nowhere near enough to have an opinion).

I feel piffle-y, but I suppose that is to be expected when school eats your life.

I did try to turn in my dog instead of my Latin excercises, but my mom rescued Chula from the car before I even got out of the driveway.

I finished Dead Until Dark last night when I couldn't fall asleep due to Plato's Parmenides running through my head. Needless to say, Plato's Dialogues do not make good before bed reading as they tend to turn my brain on and Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novels do.

I was reluctant to jump on this bandwagon, but I really, really liked True Blood, mostly because I can get behind anything with Anna Paquin in it and, well, the men of the show are GORGEOUS (it has lots of narrative problems, however, and is in general RIDICULOUS, but I think the writers know that and are resigned to making it as silly and campy as possible). I also know several smart and sassy ladies who love the books and when my boss told me she also enjoyed them, I caved.

I have to say, despite being so over sexy vampires, I enjoyed this. Harris' world is flirty and funny, and just a little bit dark and edgy, as well as dangerous. I do not particularly care for Bill, but then I never thought a predator/prey relationship would be ideal for romance.

That being said, the books are raunchy and laught-out-loud funny and Sookie's voice is unusual, sassy and distinct. I very, very much like Sookie and I am thrilled that there are more books and that she will be the narrator.

I liked this quite a bit, okay, a lot, because let's face it, Sebastien is a mighty, mighty fine looking butler. However, my initial response was something like:

Ooookay, this is Hellsing, but Integra has morphed into a creepy little boy child who makes toys and guards England from drug dealers, Walter has merged with Alucard to a make a butler who though very frightening and entertaining, lacks the sheer psychosis of Alucard and the sheer awesome of Walter, and Seras Victoria has morphed into four background characters, who while entertaining, have no Harkonnen cannon. Hmmmmm. And sadly, there is no Pip.

But despite that, I have every volume available ordered and just await for their releases. I have a feeling the series will grow on me and that it's not fair to compare ANYTHING to Hellsing because Hellsing is just in a category all to its brilliant, gory little self.
